2016 Starts Switch Move to 25/100, The Largest Transition Ever
A recently published report by Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the telecommunications, networks, and data center IT industries, revealed the Ethernet Switch market continues to fragment with Data Center Switches driving almost all the growth in the overall market through 2020. Data center sales for Arista, Huawei, and Juniper surged in 2015, growing 41 percent, 125 percent and 15 percent respectively.
“2015 was a record year for the Data Center segment of the Ethernet Switch market as the Data Center segment almost reached$10 B,” said Alan Weckel, Vice President at Dell’Oro Group. “2016 will see the start of the largest transition the Ethernet Switch market has ever experienced as servers move to 25/50 Gbps and switches migrate to 25/100 Gbps. We expect almost all growth in data center switches to come from the Cloud as economic headwinds will likely cause a modest contraction from Enterprises during the year. Additionally, we anticipate that for each year of the forecast period, the list of mega-Cloud data centers using white-box switches will increase,” stated Weckel.
The report also indicates Data Center Ethernet Switch market share for equipment manufacturers ranked two through five was very tight in 2015:
